Sunday’s in the late 30s and early 40s were fun times for us on the farm. The war was on and most people didn’t have meat, eggs, butter and the like. We did because we lived on the little farm. Every Sunday friends who had saved their gas rations would drive out to Carmichael for a big breakfast. And, that included the buttermilk hotcakes my father would fry up on the outside BBQ grill.

Here is Maybell and Myron’s recipe.

Buttermilk Pancakes

1 C flour (scant cup)

1 C buttermilk

  1. Egg (or two egg whites)
  2. 1 T melted butter

2 t sugar

1 t baking powder

mix dry ingredients. Add liquid ingredients. Fry @ 375º - 400º
