Tomato Soup Cake

Kay  remembers this from the 50s

    2            eggs    
     1 c          sugar
    1/2 c       butter
    2 c         flour
    1 t        baking soda
    2 t       baking powder
    1/2 t     cinnamon
    1/2 t    cloves
    1/2 t    salt
    1 t      nutmeg
    1 can    tomato soup
    1 c       dates, chopped
    1 c      chopped nuts

    Beat on med. speed until well blended.
    Bake in a greased 9x13 pan at 350 until top springs back. Check at 30 minutes.
     May have to bake until 40 minutes and sometimes it's done at 30 minutes.

                Ice with Easy Penuche Icing 

        1/2 cup butter   
        1 cup brown sugar, well packed
          1/4 cup milk
        1 3/4  to 2 cups  powdered sugar

            Melt  butter in a sauce pan. Add brown sugar.  Stir in milk and bring to a

           boil, stirring constantly.

             Cool to luke warm and gradually add powdered sugar.
             Beat until thick enough to spread.  If it gets too thick, add a little hot water.        

                                  Beat by hand, it gets thicker.
