GermanShort Ribs

(If Teresa says "I'ts good!" then you know it's good.)
    Oh my goodness. I forgot just how good these are.

3-3 1/2 lbs.     beef short ribs
4 T                  flour
2 T                  shortning (old recipe. Now we use canola oil)
1 t                   salt
1/2 t                pepper
2 med.            onions, sliced
1/2 C      dry red wine
1/2 C      chili sauce
3   T       brown sugar
3 T         vinegar
1 T         Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 t       dry mustard
1/2 t       chili powder

2 T         flour

   We are using whole grain or whole wheat large noodles.

    Start the sauce.  Combine first 7 ingredients of the sauce and set aside.
     (I usually make 1 1/2 the amound of sauce because i is so good and I sometimes have extra sauce t just have over extra noodles)

    Coat short ribs with mixture of flour, S & P. (I put the flour in a bag and shake one piece of meat at a time to throughly coat it) Heat oil in skillet, add ribs and brown well.
Place ribs in a crock pot, add onions then sauce.
    Cover and cook on HIGH for about six hours. Check meat. If not tender cook another 1 to 2 hours on low.
When meat is tender remove from crock pot and keep warm.
    Mix 2 T of water with the remaining 2 T of flour and slowly, stiring constantly, add the flour mixture.
Return heat to high and let sauce thicken while stiring.
    Return ribs back to crock pot .

   Being lazy and bcause I want to have an easier dinner, I cut meat off the bones before I return the meat to the pot.

          Serve over noodles.
